InterAmerica's Hash 2005 - Day Two - Friday, September 2

Getting Into the Swing of Things

We wandered downstairs to the lobby, and found Body, Yasko, Nurse and Yeast having breakfast. It was good to see Body and Yasko, even if it meant I didn't get a free trip to Hedon like I did for Costa Rica. We hung out with them for a while before heading down to the lower lobby to get a beer.

We wandered around the lower lobby for a while. Circumspector got some hash stuff from the vendors who were selling stuff. And we saw Plop. Then we walked out the front of the hotel to find some lunch. As we wandered along, we heard Climaxes calling to us, so we went to join them at their outside table at Starbucks (or some Canadian clone). Then more south Florida hashers joined us, and we all went for lunch at the nearby sports bar. Beer and food, and then back to the hotel, where we prepped for that afternoon's hash.

Once again I saw the yellow school buses gathering in the parking lot, so I went down to get a good spot. I topped off my beer in the lobby before I went out, so I wouldn't run dry. We stood around for a while on the sidewalk, watching the buses and socializing. Finally the call came to load up.

Tonight's run was a short one; the long, medium and short runs were three, two, and one miles respectively. I was on the long bus, near Come Again and Yeast and some other south Florida hashers. And a lot of other hashes, too. We were pretty crowded. There was one guy sitting on the floor. Come Again spilled his beer on him. That second photo shows a guy with a big beer stain on his back. Just before the bus pulled out, the organizers passed out a bunch of foam Canadian maple leaf hats, so we all looked very Canadian.

The buses drove somewhere downtown and unloaded us. We milled around for a bit, and one hasher climbed up in a tree. I'm not sure why. The (pre-lay) hare shouted out a bunch of unintelligible instructions, and we were off.

It was a fast trail through downtown. At one point, for about 90 seconds, I was the FRB. Then I made one bad decision, and I was back in the pack. We were running through streets, traffic and parks, and then suddenly we were at the on-in. Here's the GPS track. Once again there are no low-level aerial photos available. I gues I could put the track on a city map.

The on-in venue was an old church, now converted to some kind of theater (or theatre, since we were in Canada). There were tables and food in the courtyard, and although I was no longer the FRB, I was still one of the first ones in, so I got my food right away.

There was a lot of sitting around eating and drinking, and then the crowd began to migrate inside. Inside, and up a couple flights of stairs, was the old church, where there was a band set up. It was a good band, playing exactly the music that I would have chosen, and we danced the night away.

After a while Circumpsector took the camera, and went up to the balcony area overlooking the main dance floor, and got some looking down pictures. It's all blurry after that, but I have to assume that we eventually took the bus back to the hotel.
